Check the billing route first
Three possibilities, and they lead to three different products:
- Billed directly by the service — a gift code can usually apply.
- Billed by an app store — you need that platform's credit instead.
- Billed by a TV provider or as part of a package — usually no gift code applies at all.
The third case is common for this service in particular, because it has historically been sold through television providers as well as directly.
Why old advice is unreliable here
The service changed name, and in several markets the catalogue and the plan structure changed with it. Guides written before that describe products that no longer exist under those names.
Practical effect: do not rely on what a forum post said two years ago, and do not assume a card you saw in a shop is still the current product. Ask and we will check what is actually available now in the market you need.
Plan tiers
There are multiple tiers, typically separated by advertising and by streaming quality. As everywhere in this category, a fixed amount of credit covers a different number of months on each — size the gift against the plan they actually use, or treat it as a contribution and say so.
