More than one department
Womenswear, menswear, children's clothing, and in many stores a homeware range. For a household rather than an individual, that breadth makes the card easier to spend than a single-department retailer.
Worth mentioning to the recipient, who may not know the homeware range exists.
Membership pricing
The retailer runs a loyalty programme with member prices and vouchers. A gift card is a payment method, so member pricing comes off first and the card pays the reduced total.
Tell the recipient to scan their membership as usual. People often assume paying with a card forfeits the discount; it does not.
Children's clothing
This is where the card is most practically useful. Children grow out of things constantly, so a card for a parent is spent immediately on something genuinely needed rather than saved for an occasion.
It is an unglamorous recommendation and a good one.
In store and online
Generally both within one country. Online returns are sometimes handled differently from store returns — in some markets returning an online order to a shop is straightforward, in others it is not.
Region
Country-specific. The retailer operates national stores and a card belongs to one of them.
Returns
Back to gift balance rather than to a bank card. With clothing's return rate, expect this to come up.
Amount
The price of one whole item at their usual level, or clearly half of something larger. See the fashion guide on sizing the gift.
